Tom Moran – Managing Director for the Moran & Bewley's Hotels Group
Based in Dublin and with over thirty years' experience in the Hospitality industry, Tom oversees the overall operational performance and profit maximisation of Moran & Bewleys Hotels, a group which consists of 10 hotels and two pubs and which employs over 1200 people.
Tom Moran began his hospitality career in the UK in the early 70's where he and his wife Sheila managed a number of pubs across London. In the 1980's Tom, Sheila and family returned to Ireland to run their own business in West Limerick which incorporated a large music hall, bar, restaurant and supermarket.
In 1988 Tom Moran hit the headlines by purchasing the Red Cow Inn, a very busy public house and recognised landmark on the Naas Road in Dublin. The pub was sold for just over £1million making Tom famous as 'the man who bought Ireland's first million pound pub'. After the acquisition of the Red Cow Inn, Dublin, Tom and Sheila continued to build up a portfolio of successful pubs for the next 10 years before choosing to move away from pubs in the late 90's and to expand instead into Hotels.
In 1996 the first hotel, the flagship of the group – the Red Cow Moran Hotel, Dublin was opened. In 1998 Tom made his first international acquisition – The Crown pub in Cricklewood, London which he refurbished and then developed an adjacent hotel calling it The Crown Moran Hotel. The following year he acquired a branded Cork hotel and redeveloped it - today the Silver Springs Moran Hotel is one of the largest conference venues in Southern Ireland. A second London Hotel; the Chiswick Moran Hotel, opened in 2006 – formerly a derelict office building but after the 'Moran touch' it was transformed into the luxurious four star hotel it is today. In March 2008 the Moran Group purchased Bewley's Hotels; a group of six hotels located across Dublin, Leeds and Manchester.
Tom is an avid GAA fan and also enjoys walking, gardening and spending time with the extended family.
